Universitat de Barcelona (UCB) – Spain The group directed by Pr. Salvat at the University of Barcelona, has ample experience in theoretical radiation physics and in the development of Monte Carlo tools for the simulation of electron-photon transport in matter. In particular, UCB is the developer of the general-purpose Monte Carlo code PENELOPE, which implements state-of-the-art physics models and transport algorithms. The group also kept continued collaboration with research groups in medical physics and developed work on simulation of electron accelerators and dosimetry of different brachytherapy sources. In MAESTRO project UCB works on the development of highly precise 3D dose calculation using Monte Carlo codes, in collaboration with the French treatment planning system provider, Dosisoft.
