University Duisburg-Essen (UDE) – Medical Faculty – Germany The “Strahlenklinik” in Essen is not only one of the biggest departments for radiation oncology in Germany but it also plays a leading role in research and education for radiation oncologists as well for medical physicists. UDE played a major role in the development of innovative radiotherapy techniques such as high dose rate brachytherapy, intraoperative radiotherapy, intracoronary radiotherapy and radiotherapy in eye tumours. Special efforts have been made in the last years in hadron therapy, UDE being the only place in Germany to perform neutron therapy using a hospital based cyclotron. One of the roofs of the success of the Strahlenklinik is based on the strong link and the good cooperation with the Department for Radiation Biology in UDE that introduce a unique opportunity for the MAESTRO consortium. In MAESTRO project UDE in involved in clinical activities consisting of requirements in radiotherapy and validation of the products developed in the project. UDE's web site : www.uni-essen.de
