National Physical Laboratory (NPL) - UK The National Physical Laboratory, has 500 employees and is the United Kingdom's national standards laboratory (Teddington – Middlesex), with the mission of development and knowledge transfer in measurement and materials science. NPL has several scientific areas: acoustics, ionizing radiation, basic thermal metrology and length metrology, electromagnetic and time metrology, mechanical and material metrology, mathematics and scientific computing, optical and analytical metrology.
